Recently I've gotten a number of emails asking my opinion on why no one wants to play tougher competition around the
Mansfield area. I figured I would answer it here as it's easier for me to do it here.
15 years ago when I started playing we only played on friday night and most of the teams we played against were players
from cyclops on thursday nights and other leagues. One of the big differences back then was sponsorship. Even though I pay
out of my own pocket for sponsorship back than I was offered sponsorship by a number of different companies and turned them
down. In today's world it's super hard to keep a sponsor.
If you would ask most teams If they have a problem playing the better teams the one's i have talked to said they don't.
So why don't they? Simple answer when money's tight and you have sponsor's putting up the money you will go where you think
you have the best chance of winning. No matter what anyone tells you a sponsor doesn't want to hear his team is 0-16 in a
league and got run ruled every game. That's reality for some of these teams. Some teams are barely hanging onto there sponsors
now and losing seasons will not keep the money coming in.
One team i talked to in the last 8 years have went through eight sponsors and why is that. Sponsors pay to have there
name out there, if your not winning your name isn't mention simple facts. Will you get better playing against the better competition?
Hell yes you will. You either get better or you keep getting punch in the mouth. I will admit when we played against the better
teams it was alot more fun. You learned so much. So, why aren't I playing in the big leagues. It's a simple thing for me to.
It comes down to a money issue. When you have a young team and you want to keep them together I have to play in
the easier leagues until they are ready to play the big boys. I don't know how many teams I had that players quit on friday
nights because there would be nights we took some ass kickings. It was easier to replace players years back. It's alot tougher
now.
